I made my first web portfolio in 2018. It was first manually built HTML/CSS/JS, then I redid it using Eleventy for easier maintenance and upates, then I felt like I could do better so I made a new one.
The home page
A category page with all projects in that category. Each project, once unfolded shows a media galery, pretty much like the one you're using right now, but less fancy I guess.
